So, you’re starting to think about your beach body again, aren’t you? It’s that time of year where many of us hit the gym with renewed purpose. That means having an attractive, healthy body as we enjoy the ocean breeze, and some well-deserved sunshine.

We all know that working out is only part of the equation. It’s what we fuel our bodies with before our workout that can make all the difference. We need the kind of smoothies that will supercharge our workout sessions. That means healthy ingredients that get us ready to perform when it counts!

1. Banana & Walnut

Bananas provide potassium, antioxidants and deliciousness. Throw in the walnuts to get your healthy fat and protein to build muscle. Ready for action!

Blend: 1 large banana, 2 cups of milk, 1 tablespoon of honey and a handful of walnuts.

2. Kiwi & Kale

Get your dose of greens so you can pump some iron! The kiwi will nicely balance out the bitterness of the kale so you can get the benefits and a nice flavor. Kale contains a wealth of nutrients your body needs, including the sometimes forgotten: calcium.

Blend: 2 cups of kale, 1 ½ cups of milk, 1 kiwi (peeled), 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (unsalted), and 1 tablespoon of honey.

3. Vitamin C to the Max

Why not throw a Vitamin C party in a glass before you hit the gym? Strawberries, grapefruit and pineapple will do the trick. There is the added benefit of increased iron absorption with Vitamin C.

Blend: 1 pink grapefruit, ½ cup pineapple, ½ cup strawberries, and ½ cup Greek yogurt (non-fat).

4. Blueberry & Avocado Two Tone

It is no secret that avocados are a great, healthy source of fat. Blueberries are a good source of antioxidants containing fiber, vitamin B6, folate and potassium supporting the health of the heart. Plus, they are delicious! Many doctors have stated that blueberries “boost the brain” with their high phenol content. This means they can safeguard the brain from degeneration and oxidative stress.

Blend: (The bottom layer) 1 avocado (ripe, peeled and pitted), 1 cup of plain yogurt (low-fat), 3 tablespoons of honey.

Blend: (The top layer) 1 1/3 cup of blueberries, ¼ cup almond butter, 1 cup plain yogurt (low-fat), 1/3 cup of milk.

5. Avocado Peanut Butter Chocolate Dream

This smoothie is more like a milkshake! There is fuel in here for a stellar workout and a tasty start to your day.

Blend: ½ avocado, 1 frozen banana, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of peanut butter, 1 ½ cups vanilla almond milk (unsweetened), 1 tablespoon syrup.

Note: Add more milk if the above blend is too thick after 3 minutes of blending.

6. Super Green Machine

Spinach is meant for strength! However, it is also good for skin, hair and bone health. Improve performance the easy way — by adding a bit of sweetness to the mix.

Blend: 2 cups spinach (frozen), 2 bananas, 1 cup of apple juice.
